Road traffic offenders in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State will now face strict penalties, as the council chairman, Godwin Ogorugba, has inaugurated a Road Task Force Committee to enforce traffic regulations. Speaking at the inauguration on Monday, Ogorugba issued a stern warning to reckless drivers and motorcyclists (Okada riders), emphasizing that violations will no longer be tolerated.
“We have lost too many lives due to this reckless one-way driving,” he lamented. “It pains me deeply, especially as we recently buried one of my cousins who died as a result of this. The committee’s mandate is to support existing government agencies in ensuring road safety, not to extort money from residents.”
Ogorugba also expressed concern over the Iyede axis, where traders have encroached on the main road, posing serious risks to lives and property. “If anything happens there, it will be a tragedy we won’t easily recover from. We must address this issue now before it escalates beyond control,” he warned.
The newly formed task force will be led by Emmanuel Akukwata, who will also oversee the Ozoro axis, while Isagba Gabriel (Otor Owhe), Lucky Okeremu (Emevor), and Festus Onwah (Iyede) will manage their respective areas. Members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and local traffic officers from Ozoro Division A and Otor Owhe Division B will also collaborate with the task force.
FRSC Unit Commander Mukoro O. I., present at the event, commended the council chairman for taking proactive measures, stating that the rising number of accidents made the committee’s formation timely.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the task force, Akukwata assured that the team would enforce traffic laws diligently and in line with the chairman’s vision.
The event was attended by Vice Chairman Evelyn Aluta, Secretary to the Council Vote Umukoro, Supervisors, and Security Chiefs, all reaffirming their support for the initiative aimed at ensuring safer roads in Isoko North.
