IPOB Issues Warning to EEDC: Improve Electricity Supply in Southeast or Face Consequences

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) over the alleged inadequate power supply in the Southeast region of Nigeria.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB accused EEDC of failing to provide steady electricity and demanded that the company either improve its services or leave the region to make way for more reliable companies.
The group criticized EEDC for not fulfilling its obligations and highlighted a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on March 25, 2023, which promised 24-hour power supply in the state.
Despite the agreement, IPOB claims that EEDC has not provided even 6 hours of steady light in a day.
IPOB emphasized the importance of electricity in driving economic activities and industrialization in the region and warned that if EEDC does not improve its power supply, the group will have no choice but to shut down EEDC offices in the Southeast.
The warning comes as part of IPOB’s efforts to ensure that the region receives adequate and reliable electricity services.
The situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by residents in the Southeast region of Nigeria, where inadequate power supply has been a long-standing issue.
As IPOB’s ultimatum looms, the ball is now in EEDC’s court to either address the concerns and improve its services or face the consequences.
