IOM Reveals Devastating Impact of Crises on 70,000 Benue Households

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) representative, Laurent M.J. De Boeck, has disclosed that over 70,000 households in Benue State have been severely affected by the crises that have plagued the state, resulting in the loss of their homes and livelihoods.

De Boeck made this revelation during the foundation laying ceremony for a state-of-the-art conference hall at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Benue State.

The conference hall, which is being built to serve as a hub for humanitarian affairs, aims to provide a conducive environment for strategic discussions, capacity-building, and emergency response coordination.

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, emphasized the importance of the conference hall as a symbol of the state’s commitment to managing and coordinating humanitarian response efforts.

Governor Alia also reiterated his administration’s dedication to the safe return of displaced persons and the restoration of their dignity.

He acknowledged the hardships faced by those affected by displacement and pledged the necessary support and resources for their reintegration into their communities.

The governor commended the efforts of the acting executive secretary of SEMA and his team for their unwavering commitment to serving the people of Benue State.

He highlighted the significance of the conference hall in facilitating the exchange of ideas, forging partnerships, and providing solutions for the humanitarian crises affecting the state.

The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by the representative of the International Organization for Migration, which has pledged its commitment to providing necessary assistance to address the humanitarian crises in Benue State.

The construction of the conference hall is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening the state’s capacity to manage and respond effectively to humanitarian challenges.
