Instagram is rolling out a long-awaited feature that lets users rearrange their profile posts however they want. Creators and brands will now have far more control over how their grids look to visitors.

Until now, posts appeared in reverse chronological order on profiles. Users could only pin three posts to the top as a workaround.

The new tool lets people drag and drop photos and videos anywhere on their grid. It doesn't matter when the content was originally posted.

Both Android and iPhone users are getting access as the rollout expands globally. Instagram tested the feature with select users over several months before this launch.

Using it is simple—just press and hold any post, then drag it to your preferred spot. Your pinned posts will stay locked at the top regardless.

Creators and businesses have been asking for this for years. Many felt frustrated when Instagram's shift to taller thumbnails disrupted their carefully planned layouts.

Adam Mosseri, who heads Instagram, explained the thinking behind it. According to him, "The feature has been in development for some time and is designed to give users more flexibility over how their content is presented."

He noted that pinned posts remain at the top even after rearranging other content. This gives users the best of both options.

The update only affects profile appearance—not how content shows up in followers' feeds. Instagram's recommendation algorithm still controls what appears in people's feeds.

Photographers, influencers, and brands stand to benefit most from this change. They can now highlight key campaigns and maintain a consistent visual identity without deleting and reposting old content.

Instagram plans to reach all users gradually over the coming weeks.
