Stanley Iheanacho has named Victor Osimhen as his biggest inspiration since returning to Midtjylland this summer. The Nigerian striker rejoined the Danish club after impressing at Portuguese side CD Mafra and is preparing for the 2026/27 season.
Iheanacho has hit the ground running in pre-season, scoring in all three of Midtjylland's friendly matches against Lillestrøm, Malmö, and Silkeborg. He's already bagged three goals and is pushing hard for a prominent role in the campaign ahead.
Speaking to Midtjylland's media on Tuesday, the forward explained why Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, means so much to him. "Yes, I admire Victor Osimhen," he said.
"He is an incredible individual, a fighter who has overcome poverty."
Iheanacho praised the Super Eagles star's mentality and work rate on the pitch. "His warrior mentality is truly motivating, and he gives his all when he plays – he possesses an insatiable hunger for goals," he told reporters.
"I can see many qualities in him that resonate with me."
The Midtjylland striker doesn't just watch Osimhen from afar. He actively studies footage and interviews to develop his own game.
"I watch his highlights and all the interviews he participates in," Iheanacho explained.
Beyond wanting to learn from Osimhen, Iheanacho harbours a bigger dream. "I strive to learn from him, and my dream is to share the pitch with him someday," he added.
Iheanacho earned his return to Denmark after a stellar campaign with CD Mafra, where he netted 14 goals in the Portuguese Liga 3. His successful pre-season has boosted his confidence heading into the new season.
The young forward is determined to keep his scoring run going and vindicate Midtjylland's decision to bring him back. With momentum on his side, he'll be keen to make an impact when league action gets underway.
