Igbo youth leaders have praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his inclusive approach to governance, particularly his willingness to appoint non-indigenes to key positions in his administration. Empire Iweha, president of the Igbo Youth Congress, made the commendation while speaking to journalists in Lokoja.
Iweha, who also serves as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Surveillance, said Ododo has demonstrated fairness by involving non-indigenes in governance and ensuring all state residents benefit from democratic dividends. He described the governor's strategy as a model worthy of replication across the country.
The IYC leader noted that the administration has created equal opportunities for residents regardless of their ethnic background. Around 11 Igbo sons and daughters currently hold positions within the Kogi State Government, he said.
Iweha characterised Ododo as a leader without tribal sentiments and a steadfast supporter of the Igbo community. He also commended the peaceful relations among different ethnic and religious groups in the state and pledged that non-indigenes would continue backing the administration.
Speaking on his own record since becoming IYC president on July 8, 2022, Iweha outlined his achievements. His tenure has seen the execution of five water projects across Igbo communities in the state.
He awarded scholarships to 50 Igbo students in Kogi State and 15 others across the South-East. Six of the South-East beneficiaries graduated with first-class honours, including the overall best graduating student at their institution.
At the Federal University Lokoja, one scholarship recipient earned a first-class degree while three others obtained second-class honours. Iweha also extended scholarships to nine dependants of journalists spread across Kogi's three senatorial districts.
Beyond education, he donated musical instruments to associations and communities. He's also commenced renovation work on the Igbo Community Hall in Lokoja.
Two boreholes executed at Crusher community and the Igbo Community Hall were recently inaugurated by representatives of the governors of Abia and Kogi states, he added. The representatives commended his youth empowerment and community development work.
