I Won’t Lose Battle To Keep Nigeria Secure — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu swore on Monday that he will not give up the fight to keep Nigeria safe and that he will equip the military with the essential support to fend off the nation’s enemies.

The President made this remark at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2023 in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The President, as per a statement by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said he has no plans of backing down or resting on his achievements in securing Nigeria, stating that he will triumph in the fight to keep Nigeria secure.

Tinubu, who praised the Nigerian Army’s dedication to national security, advised the army to stay impartial but alert in maintaining democratic values, highlighting their role as a protector of constitutional order during elections.

“The exemplary conduct of the Armed Forces during the elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States demonstrates your role as a protector of our constitutional order and democracy principles. In this regard, the Nigerian Army must stay entirely impartial but vigilantly pro-democracy.

“We also appreciate the many civilian-military projects across the country, some of which will be inaugurated during this conference.

“These projects not only foster closer ties and mutual understanding between the military and civilian population, they also serve the practical purpose of noticeably improving the living standards of the people,” the President said.

Referring to the recent acquisition of new aircraft as proof of his determination to enhance national defence capability, President Tinubu also confirmed his administration’s commitment to progressing the ongoing modernization process within the military, with a focus on improving mobility, communications, and offensive striking capabilities.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, told the President that ongoing military operations in different parts of the country have considerably weakened criminal elements while curbing farmer-herder conflicts in various parts of the country.

“Despite these accomplishments, we acknowledge the importance of continuous evaluation, and this conference will be useful in devising long-term strategies to strengthen our ability to fulfil our constitutional duty in the year 2024,” the Army Chief said.
