Hoodlums Wreak Havoc in Ilejemeje Local Government Secretariat and Community

Suspected hoodlums from Obbo-Aiyegunle in Kwara State launched a violent attack on the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat in Ekiti, as well as terrorizing the residents, on Tuesday.

The incident, reportedly linked to a land dispute, has left the community in a state of fear and disarray.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the armed hoodlums, who fired gunshots to intimidate the residents, vandalized windows and doors of the local government secretariat.

The attack forced workers to flee for their safety.

Oba Awodipo Awolola, the Eleda of Eda-Oniyo, expressed his concerns about the violence, stating that the hoodlums had also attacked individuals with charms on their farms, resulting in one person being hospitalized.

The traditional ruler highlighted the trauma and fear the incident has caused among the community.

In response to the attack, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Mr Alaba Dada, expressed his shock and condemned the violence.

He has since mobilized security officers to the town to prevent further attacks and restore peace.

Dada has also called on both the Ekiti and Kwara state governments to intervene and resolve the land dispute, in the interest of maintaining a peaceful and harmonious relationship between the two states.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this brutal attack, the urgent need for a resolution to the land dispute has become more apparent than ever.

The people of Ilejemeje Local Government Area and Obbo-Aiyegunle in Kwara State must work together with their respective state governments to find a peaceful and equitable solution to the ongoing conflict.

The attack on the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing local disputes before they escalate into violence, and underscores the need for effective and swift intervention from government and security forces.
