Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has moved to clear the air about his mother's control of his finances, rejecting claims that the arrangement was designed to protect his wealth during his messy divorce from actress Hiba Abouk. The Morocco international insists the setup dates back to his teenage years, long before he married Abouk in February 2020.

"Since I was young I earned much money from football but I couldn't manage it. So my mother managed all that," Hakimi told reporters in a recent interview.

The 26-year-old explained that he lacked the maturity to handle large sums when he first started earning as a teenager. He said even at 18 years old, he couldn't properly control his own bank account, so his mother Saida Mouh took charge of everything.

Hakimi revealed he still consults his mother before making major financial moves. "I always take her opinion about money when I buy a house or a car or when I earn a lot of money," he said.

His family later agreed that his mother should quit her job entirely to manage his finances full-time. He described her as "the manager of the house," noting that the family shared all financial details with her because she handled everything.

The defender flatly denied suggestions that putting assets under his mother's name served as a shield during his marriage. "No, this has nothing to do with marriage, because as I said, it was always that way since childhood," he stated.

Hakimi and Abouk separated in 2023, sparking a frenzy of speculation on social media. Reports claimed Abouk sought half his fortune only to discover his salary, investments and properties were registered in his mother's name.

Viral posts alleged that a French court ruled Hakimi owned no assets and his ex-wife received nothing in the settlement. However, no verified court records have ever surfaced to support these claims.

Hakimi's legal team has declined to comment on the divorce settlement or the swirling allegations. The exact financial terms of their separation remain undisclosed.
