Gunmen descended on Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State late Monday. Three residents were killed in the raid.

The attackers stormed the town under darkness, firing weapons continuously into the night. Families scattered into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

Several other people sustained injuries during the assault. They were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Residents described it as one of the most terrifying security incidents in months. Many worry that banditry is spreading from Katsina State into Kano.

Sani Bala, the House of Representatives member for Ghari and Tsanyawa, confirmed the deaths. "As at the time of this update, three people have been confirmed dead," the lawmaker stated.

Saifullahi Sulaiman Sorodaya was in the community when it happened. "The attackers entered the town shooting without stopping, and people had no option but to run for their lives," he told reporters.

Parents grabbed their children and fled into farmlands and bushes. Some hid inside abandoned structures until the gunmen eventually left.

Madahuru Isah Ibrahim, another resident, pointed to geography as a major problem. The community sits near forests linking Kano and Katsina, making it vulnerable.

According to him, fear has gripped the area completely. "Our people are living in fear.

Farmers can no longer sleep peacefully, and many are afraid to go to their farms because of recurring attacks around these areas," Ibrahim noted.

This latest attack has refocused attention on worsening security along Kano's borders. Communities near Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa states face regular threats from armed gangs.

While Kano has escaped the worst violence seen elsewhere in the North-West, the picture is changing. Border communities now report kidnappings, cattle rustling and raids almost regularly.

Analysts warn that without swift action, violence from forests in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara will deepen. Armed groups operating there could push further into Kano's territory.

Shanono, Tsanyawa and parts of Bichi have seen suspicious bandit movements recently. Residents complain of nighttime attacks, theft and constant intimidation in these areas.

Katsina State itself remains heavily affected by banditry across the North-West. Multiple local government areas there have witnessed repeated attacks and mass abductions.

Security experts and community leaders have sounded the alarm repeatedly. They're demanding that authorities strengthen defences before violence spreads further into Kano.
