The Action Collective has called on the Federal Government to clarify the status and role of Sandra Duru, who is reportedly serving as a prosecution witness in an ongoing case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Teddy Onyejuwe, the group expressed concern over what it described as a potential contradiction in the administration of justice. The statement raised questions about the use of an individual previously linked to unresolved legal matters as a federal witness.
According to the group, Sandra Duru, also known as Prof. Mgbeke, was previously named in a criminal complaint and had allegedly left the country during the period of investigation. The Action Collective stated that the circumstances surrounding her reported absence from earlier legal proceedings and her current role in a federal case merit clarification from relevant authorities.
Mr. Onyejuwe urged the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to provide a public explanation regarding Duru’s legal standing. “It is essential that the justice system operates transparently to maintain public confidence,” he said.
The group emphasized that any ambiguity regarding the background of prosecution witnesses could affect the perception of fairness and impartiality in high-profile legal matters. It also called for due diligence in vetting individuals whose involvement may attract public scrutiny.
While not challenging the authority of the government to prosecute cases, the Action Collective maintained that consistency in legal standards must be upheld to preserve the credibility of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary.
The group is urging swift clarification from the offices of the Attorney General and the IGP, warning that silence on the matter could lead to speculation and erode public trust in the ongoing judicial process.
