Governor Radda of Katsina State Rejects Negotiations with Bandits, Advocates for State Policing

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed his determination to tackle insecurity in the state without negotiating with bandits.

He emphasized the need for state policing as part of his strategy to combat the ongoing security challenges in the region.

Governor Radda made it clear that he would not negotiate with bandits, citing past experiences in the state that resulted in the bandits acquiring more weapons and launching further attacks on innocent citizens.

He believes that negotiating with criminals would only give them a sense of power and control over the situation.

To address the security challenges in the state, Governor Radda established the Katsina Community Watch Corps, a group of trained locals who work alongside conventional security agencies.

The governor emphasized that the approach was well-thought-out and backed by the law, with members receiving training in combat, weapons handling, and other security-related skills.

Radda acknowledged that many states in the northwest region are facing similar challenges with banditry and kidnappings.

He called for a regional approach to tackling these issues, stating that a united front would be more effective in dealing with the problem.

The governor also addressed the false narrative that the conflict between bandits and the state is a case of Fulani against Hausa.

He stressed that such claims are untrue and diversionary, as the bandits are simply criminals who should be treated as such.

Governor Radda’s approach to addressing insecurity in Katsina State involves a strong stance against negotiating with bandits and the establishment of the Katsina Community Watch Corps.

He also advocates for state policing and a regional approach to tackling the issue. By rejecting misleading narratives and focusing on the criminal nature of the bandits, Radda hopes to bring peace and security to the region.
