Governor Seyi Makinde has eased the nighttime curfew across 10 local government areas near Old Oyo National Park. The decision came after security forces intensified efforts to rescue abducted students and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area.
Information Commissioner Dotun Oyelade announced the move on Saturday. Residents in affected areas can now return to their normal routines, he said.
Security agencies will continue their operations against kidnappers in the region. According to Oyelade, "the government is closely monitoring the security situation, and efforts are ongoing to bring the kidnapping episode to an end."
Initially, authorities imposed the curfew for 48 hours starting June 24. It ran from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily across the 10 councils.
Officials later extended it by another 24 hours. They said the restriction was meant to support security operations targeting criminal gangs in the area.
Ten councils fell under the curfew order. These included Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
