Governor Fubara Inaugurates Governing Councils of Rivers State Universities, Emphasizes Curriculum Review and Merit-Based Employment

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, recently inaugurated the newly constituted governing councils of the state-owned tertiary institutions, including Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, and Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.

The event took place at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.

During the inauguration, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of education and the need to address the shortfalls in the educational system.

He urged the council members to review the curriculum to enhance the acquisition and application of functional skills.

“We must ensure that our educational system is capable of producing graduates that can compete favorably with their peers in the global market.

This can only be achieved through a robust and functional curriculum that addresses the needs of the society,” Governor Fubara said.

The governor also approved the recommencement of the suspended Ignatius Ajuru University employment, but with a stern warning against compromise in the process.

He stressed that the exercise must be strictly on merit and based on the initial approval of 869 staff, with adherence to the approved percentages for academic and non-academic staff.

“We must ensure that the employment process is transparent, fair, and based on merit. There should be no room for favoritism, nepotism, or any form of bias.

We must give our people equal opportunities to grow and contribute to the development of our state and country,” Governor Fubara added.

The newly inaugurated governing councils are expected to play a crucial role in the development and growth of the state-owned tertiary institutions.

With their expertise and guidance, the universities are expected to improve their academic and administrative standards, ultimately providing quality education to students and contributing to the socio-economic development of Rivers State.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s inauguration of the governing councils of Rivers State universities underscores his administration’s commitment to education and the need for a functional and merit-based system.

With the approval of the recommencement of the suspended Ignatius Ajuru University employment, the governor has shown his dedication to ensuring a transparent and fair process that will benefit the state and its people.
