Governor Alex Otti Makes Key Appointments in Abia State’s Health and Education Sectors

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has made significant changes in the state’s health and education sectors.

The Governor has approved the appointment of Dr Chimezie Okwuonu, the immediate-past Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Abia State, as the Chief Medical Director of the newly-retrofitted Abia Diagnostic Centre/Specialist Hospital, Umuahia.

The Governor also appointed Dr Kalu U. Kalu as Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare; Professor Ijeoma Nduka as the CMD of Abia State University Teaching Hospital ABSUTH; and Dr N.O.E. Kamanu as the CMD of General Hospital, Aba.

In the education sector, Governor Otti appointed Stanley Egege as Chairman of the Governing Board of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, with Dr Okoro Christopher Kalu as the new Rector.

Uchechukwu Job Iweha, Rose Mbara Nelson, and Mrs Lawrencia Onyemachi are members of the board.

The Governor also appointed Professor. Mba O. Okoronkwo as Chairman of Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu, with Professor. Solomon Umeham, Dr Nduka O. Elendu, and Mazi Obasi Lawson as members.

Furthermore, Governor Otti appointed Alwell Okey Agbara as Chairman of the Abians In Diaspora Commission, with Leonard Ibeka, Rev. Annie Onwuchekwa, Engnr. Bob Ibeneme, and Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe as members.

The appointments are part of Governor Otti’s efforts to strengthen the health and education sectors in Abia State and ensure that the people of the state have access to quality healthcare and education.
