Government Inaction Fuels Violence and Emboldens Killers: ADC Presidential Candidate

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, expressed his concerns about the government’s inability to implement laws against violence, which he believes has emboldened people to kill military officers without fear of punishment.

Kachikwu pointed out that this inaction has given rise to the activities of gangs and their leaders in the country.

The ADC presidential candidate cited the recent incident in the Okuama community of Delta state, where irate youths ambushed and killed troops of the 181 Amphibious Battalion on a peace mission between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

The attack resulted in the death of the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and other soldiers, whose bodies were even decapitated.

Kachikwu expressed his concern over the recurring incidents of kidnappings and killings in the Okuama community, noting that a particular individual has been known to kill soldiers in Delta state and parts of Bayelsa for years.

He alleged that both the government and citizens of these communities are complicit in the Delta crisis.

According to Kachikwu, successive state governments have failed to deal with the issue because of the political undertones and the protection of “kit and kin” by people in various arms of government.

He emphasized that as long as commissions of inquiry and reports are not implemented, people will continue to believe it is acceptable to kill and maim without facing consequences.

To address the insecurity problem and the attack on the military, Kachikwu stressed the importance of having a government that stands for the protection of Nigerian lives and ensures that a price is paid for any loss of life.

He believes that the Commander-in-Chief must be committed to avenging any attack on the military and pursuing those responsible to the very end.
