FRSC Vows to Continue Arresting Trailers Loaded with Passengers

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that it will continue its operations against trailers loaded with passengers and goods across the country until the situation is under control.

The announcement was made during a Salah mega rally at the Zuba Central Motor Park in Abuja on Saturday by the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu, who was represented by Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, Shehu Zaki.

The FRSC has made significant arrests since the beginning of the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (JTF) operations, with 35 trailers carrying 982 passengers apprehended between March 23 and March 30.

Out of these, 19 of the trailers with 810 passengers were apprehended on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, and 16 trailers with 172 passengers were apprehended on the Bauchi-Maiduguri highway.

The Corps Marshal emphasized that the FRSC is working with the Nigerian Bar Association and state judiciaries to prosecute offenders on the spot, ensuring that the road traffic crashes are reduced to the barest minimum.

The FRSC has also appealed to transport union leaders to support the organization in bringing sanity to highways.

Alhaji Umar Abubakar, the FCT Deputy Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, mentioned that they had suspended not less than 10 members for overloading and other traffic offences in the last three months.

During the Salah mega rally, the FRSC educated drivers and passengers on the dangers of overloading, speeding, lane indiscipline, use of phones while driving, and drunk driving, among other issues.

The FRSC’s efforts to ensure road safety and reduce road traffic crashes are commendable, and the organization’s commitment to continuing its operations against trailers loaded with passengers and goods is a step in the right direction.

The support of transport union leaders and the collaboration with other security agencies will be crucial in making Nigeria’s highways safer for economic activities and the general public.
