Fresh Attacks in Plateau State Leave Communities in Mangu and Bokkos in Mourning

Recent attacks have occurred in the Mangu and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State, Nigeria, resulting in the loss of lives and leaving the communities in mourning.

The incidents have prompted reactions from local authorities and the state government, with calls for calm and increased security measures.

In the Mangu area, the Tilengpat community in the Pushit District was invaded by attackers, leading to the deaths of 12 people, mostly women and children.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Markus Artu, could not be reached for comment, but an eyewitness, Israel Bamshak, confirmed the tragic event.

In Bokkos, the attacks claimed six lives and left the communities in fear. Monday Kassah, the Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, confirmed the incidents and stated that security agents are working to restore normalcy.

The attacks have also affected students of the Plateau State University, with one student killed and another injured.

The University has declared a two-day mourning period and suspended all examinations scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has condemned the attacks and called for calm as security agencies work to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace in the affected areas.

The Governor has also reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly students.

The Plateau State Police Command and Operation Safe Haven have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attacks, as their spokesmen were unavailable at the time of the report.

These tragic events underscore the ongoing security challenges in Plateau State and the importance of collaboration between the government, security agencies, and community leaders to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
