Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, reaffirms commitment to PDP amidst party members’ defection

Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, declared his unwavering loyalty to the party amidst the departure of some of his former aides and other party chieftains to other political groups.
During the meeting, which took place at the new party secretariat, Ikpeazu emphasized the need for unity and collective responsibility in rebuilding the party after its performance in the 2023 elections.
Ikpeazu made it clear that he has no plans to leave the PDP, despite the recent defections of some party members.
He called for unity and emphasized the importance of loyalty, particularly from those who have previously benefited from the party.
He urged members to take responsibility for the party’s performance in the 2023 elections and to join hands in the rebuilding process.
The Abia State PDP Chairman, Hon Asiforo Okere, expressed gratitude to the steadfast members who have remained loyal to the party and reminded them that, despite the loss of the governorship election, the party still holds a majority in the state House of Assembly.
He also mentioned that the National Working Committee of the PDP has extended the tenures of elected ward executives and has set up three committees to handle Peace and Reconciliation, Way Forward, and Finance.
Senator representing Abia Central, Col. Austin Akobundu, stated that while people are free to leave and join a political party, the PDP in Abia State is a movement that cannot be extinguished.
Elder statesman and member of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, called for unity and stated that the time for blame games is over as there are no factions in the party.
He emphasized the need for young members to find comfort and space in the party and to contribute to leadership in the state.
The meeting was attended by prominent PDP members, including the immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, PDP governorship candidate at the 2023 elections, Chief Okey Ahiwe, former and serving PDP members of Abia State House of Assembly, and invited stakeholders.
The Abia State PDP caucus meeting demonstrated the party’s commitment to unity and rebuilding, despite recent challenges.
With the leadership of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and other prominent members, the PDP aims to strengthen its position and work towards future electoral success in the state.
