Salisu Muhammed collapsed on the football pitch Monday morning and died shortly after. The tragedy occurred during training at Massalacin Edi field in Alikazaure, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Players and onlookers watched in shock as the young man suddenly fell during the session. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Abba Abdullahi, a teammate, described the moment to reporters. "He was playing when he suddenly slumped," Abdullahi said, visibly shaken by the loss.
Friends and colleagues gathered for his funeral and remembered him fondly. They praised Muhammed as humble, tolerant and deeply respectful to everyone around him.
Mourners prayed that Allah would forgive his sins and grant him paradise. His character had clearly left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Muhammed, who lived in Anguwan Rogo, left behind a wife and four children. His parents also survive him.
Known locally as Achilata, he was laid to rest following Islamic burial customs. The ceremony took place at Babale Cemetery in Jos on Monday afternoon.
His death has left the football community in mourning. Training sessions at the field have been suspended out of respect.
