FIRS Seeks Court’s Approval to Serve Charges on Fleeing Binance Executive

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to allow them to serve charges against Nadeem Anjarwalla, a top executive of Binance Holdings Limited, who fled from custody while awaiting trial.

The court has set a date of May 17th to rule on this application.

Anjarwalla, who is a suspect in the ongoing criminal probe into Binance’s activities in Nigeria, escaped from the custody of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) last month.

He is the Africa Regional Manager for Binance and holds British and Kenyan citizenship.

The FIRS is also seeking to serve the charges against Anjarwalla on Tigran Gambaryan, another defendant who has been present in court proceedings.

The move has been opposed by Gambaryan’s counsel, who argues that it is inappropriate to serve a criminal charge of another defendant on his client.

The case against Binance and its executives is related to allegations of tax evasion in Nigeria.

The Federal Government has been investigating the company’s operations in the country, with Anjarwalla being a key figure in the probe.

The escape of Anjarwalla has prompted the Office of the NSA to take immediate steps, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, MDAs, and the international community, to apprehend the suspect.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Anjarwalla fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport, and the personnel responsible for his custody have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of his escape.

The outcome of the FIRS’s application and the court’s ruling on May 17th will be crucial in determining the next steps in the case against Binance and its executives.
