FG Denies Foreign Military Base Rumors; Groups Advise Tinubu on US Relations

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FG) has firmly denied rumors about the establishment of foreign military bases in the country.
In a recent statement, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, clarified that there have been no discussions or proposals regarding hosting foreign military bases on Nigerian soil.
The government has been actively working on strengthening national security through partnerships with other nations.
However, the FG has emphasized that these partnerships do not include the establishment of foreign military bases in Nigeria.
The statement was issued to dispel misinformation and reassure the public about the government’s stance on foreign military presence in the country.
In the same vein, several groups have cautioned President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the necessity of maintaining a balanced relationship with the United States.
They have advised Tinubu to be mindful of the implications of aligning too closely with any foreign power, especially in the context of national security and sovereignty.
The groups, including civil society organizations and security experts, have urged Tinubu to prioritize the interests of the Nigerian people and ensure that any foreign partnership is in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
They have highlighted the importance of transparency in all dealings with foreign powers and have called for public consultation and debate on any significant security-related decisions.
The government’s stance on foreign military presence in Nigeria comes at a time when the country is grappling with a variety of security challenges.
The FG has reiterated its commitment to enhancing national security through collaboration with other nations, but it has made it clear that it will not compromise on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
The government’s commitment to national security and sovereignty remains a top priority, and it will continue to work towards enhancing partnerships with other nations to address the country’s security challenges.
