FG Begins Installation of E-Gates at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport

To enhance security and streamline passenger processing, the Federal Government has commenced the installation of biometric clearance gates, also known as E-Gates, for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the Federal Capital Territory.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2024.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the development, stating that the E-Gates will provide a more efficient and secure method of processing passengers entering Nigeria.

The new system will utilize biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial recognition, to verify the identity of travelers and expedite the immigration process.

The installation of the E-Gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is part of a larger initiative to modernize and optimize immigration processes at airports across the country.

This modernization effort aims to improve the overall travel experience for both Nigerian citizens and foreign visitors, while also strengthening national security.

As the project progresses, it is expected that the E-Gates will be implemented at other international airports in Nigeria, including those in Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu.

This comprehensive approach will ensure a uniform and efficient system for managing international arrivals and departures.

The installation of E-Gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport marks a significant step forward in the modernization of Nigeria’s immigration processes.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing security and improving the travel experience for passengers entering the country.
