FG Addressing Insecurity by Recruiting More Police and Armed Forces Personnel, Says Senator Yar’Adua

Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua of Katsina Central has revealed that the Federal Government is working on recruiting more security personnel to address the rising crime rates in Nigeria.

The country is currently facing challenges related to banditry, kidnapping, oil bunkering, and other crimes, and the senator believes that the current number of security personnel is inadequate to effectively tackle these issues.

According to Senator Yar’Adua, the strength of the police and armed forces, as well as other security agencies, is insufficient for a country of 220 million people.

He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working on addressing this issue by increasing the recruitment of security personnel.

The senator emphasized the importance of addressing underdevelopment in rural areas, which he believes is a significant factor in the rise of insurgency.

He highlighted the need for a non-kinetic approach to complement the existing kinetic strategies in tackling insecurity.

Senator Yar’Adua also mentioned the challenges posed by the numerous forest reserves in Nigeria, which serve as hideouts for criminals.

He noted that with the current strength of the military and police, it is difficult to effectively combat the growing number of bandits and kidnappers, estimated to be over 30,000 in the North-West region alone.

The Federal Government is taking steps to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria by focusing on the recruitment of more police and armed forces personnel, as well as addressing underdevelopment in rural areas to tackle the root causes of insurgency.
