Federal High Court No. 1 in Gombe has begun hearing a pre-election lawsuit filed by Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh. He's challenging Prof.

Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami's selection as the PDP's governorship candidate in the state.

Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed presided over the proceedings on Thursday. She set July 9, 2026 for the next court date.

Saleh claims the party's nomination process was flawed and irregular. He's asking the court to intervene and nullify Pantami's candidacy.

Before going to court, Saleh had approached PDP leadership with complaints. He urged them to review the primary election results through internal channels.

According to him, he emphasized the need for fairness and due process. The party, he insisted, should resolve disputes within its own structures.

Those efforts yielded no results, Saleh told the court. So he decided to seek legal redress instead.

The case has drawn attention as the PDP gears up for Gombe's 2027 governorship race. Political observers expect the dispute to intensify in coming months.

Justice Mohammed scheduled further hearing for mid-July next year. The court will continue examining evidence and arguments from both sides then.
