FCT Minister Wike Defends Support for President Tinubu, Remains Loyal to PDP

In a media parley with selected journalists in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, addressed the ongoing debate about his political allegiance and party membership.

Despite supporting President Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Rivers State maintains that he is still a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike, who backed Tinubu’s presidential bid instead of the PDP’s candidate, has faced calls for expulsion from some party chieftains.

However, he asserts that his actions were in line with the party’s internal power-sharing principles and the rule of law.

During the media interaction, the FCT Minister was asked if he had changed his political affiliation.

He responded by saying, “I am a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Have you ever seen me change anything?”

Wike’s absence from major PDP meetings and his lack of support for the party in recent off-cycle elections has led to speculation about his loyalty.

However, he remains firm in his stance, stating that he is taking a break from active party politics and focusing on governance.

The former governor emphasized that he is an advocate of the party’s constitution and believes that his actions were justified.

He also highlighted that the time for politicking is over, and it is now time for governance.

With his appointment as the FCT Minister, Wike has been given an assignment by President Tinubu, which he is busy carrying out.

He maintains that when the time for politics comes, it will be clear who is loyal to which party.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the PDP will respond to Wike’s stance and whether his support for President Tinubu will have any long-term implications for the party.
