Ms Grace Ike has won the "Silent Hero in Management" award at the 8th Silent Heroes Awards ceremony held in Abuja. She chairs the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.

Ike received the honour on Thursday. She described it as recognition of journalists' hard work across Nigeria.

"I receive this award with profound gratitude and deep humility," she told the gathering. According to her, the recognition belongs to every journalist working behind the scenes.

She noted that the honour goes beyond personal achievement. It represents the collective dedication of media professionals and union members nationwide.

In her words, true leadership rests on teamwork, sacrifice, and service to others. She credited her administration's success to the combined efforts of executive officers and chapel leaders.

Ike also highlighted the roles of veterans and strategic partners in driving progress. Together, she said, they've strengthened the council's operations.

The award, according to her, will fuel her commitment to journalists' welfare. She pledged to maintain ethical standards across the profession.

"We remain custodians of truth and defenders of democracy," Ike added. She emphasized that journalists advocate for accountability in society.

Misinformation and insecurity threaten the nation's stability, she noted. Now more than ever, the profession must stay grounded in ethics and fairness.

Ike reaffirmed her dedication to training journalists and fostering unity within the NUJ. She wants to create economic opportunities for members too.

She dedicated the award to Nigerian journalists facing daily challenges. They perform courageously despite threats and difficult working conditions.

Ike expressed appreciation to her family and mentors for their support. Colleagues have also stood by her throughout her tenure.

She commended organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for their initiative. They've created a meaningful platform celebrating selfless service and unnoticed contributions.
