FCCPC Urges DisCos to Address Customer Complaints Swiftly

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) recently held a four-day one-stop-shop in Lagos to address various electricity consumer issues in the Ikeja DisCo coverage areas.

The acting executive chairman, Adamu Abdullah, advised power distribution companies to design a quick response mechanism to handle customer complaints within their networks.

The highest number of complaints received by the FCCPC was related to electricity consumers, which prompted the need for the forum.

The event aimed to bring together all stakeholders to listen to and resolve consumer complaints.

Abdullah also mentioned that the commission would obtain a commitment from DisCos on a timeframe within which complaints have to be resolved.

Major complaints received from across the country include overbilling, community transformer issues, disregard of metering, and violation of NERC regulations.

Other concerns were related to account reconciliation, adjustment bottlenecks, disconnection without notice, and billing before connecting the property to electricity.

In response to these concerns, the FCCPC has urged DisCos to be more forthcoming in addressing customer complaints quickly.

Salami Afeez, the area inspecting engineer for the Ikeja Network, assured the FCCPC of continued collaboration to deliver on their mandate.

Representatives from the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Ikeja Electric commended the FCCPC for organizing the customer complaints forum.

Electricity consumers, including Anthony Iteghete, expressed their happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to voice their concerns and needs.

The FCCPC has taken a proactive step in addressing customer complaints by organizing this forum and urging DisCos to respond quickly to their customers’ concerns.
