Family of Abducted Editor Seeks President’s Intervention in SOS Letter

The family of abducted Nigerian editor Segun Olatunji has written a heartfelt Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to intervene and order the military to release their son.

Olatunji, the editor of FirstNews, was taken from his Lagos home four days ago by ten armed men, two of whom were dressed in military uniform.

The family, in their letter, expressed their fear for Olatunji’s life and their frustration at the lack of information regarding his whereabouts and health condition.

They have reported the incident to the police but have not received any closure. As one of their only options, they have turned to the President for help.

In the letter, the family also mentioned that they have given their consent for a peaceful protest to be staged in Lagos and Abuja to draw attention to their cause and push for Olatunji’s immediate release.

The publisher of First News, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, has voiced his support for the protest, stating that “at this stage we must all rally round and support every initiative that will spur the government to take action.”

The publisher emphasized that this kind of lawless act by agents of government should not be allowed to stand, especially in a democratic society.

The First Media Network Limited, publishers of First News, have been the only source of care and concern for the family since Olatunji’s abduction.

The family remains hopeful that President Tinubu will intervene and ensure the safe return of their son.

The Nigerian government has yet to make a statement regarding the abduction, and the family, friends, and colleagues of Segun Olatunji are determined to keep fighting for his release.
