Eyitayo Jegede Withdraws from Ondo Governorship Race, Vows to Rebuild PDP

Two-time governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Balogun Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has announced his withdrawal from the forthcoming 2024 governorship election in the state.

Addressing his supporters in Akure, the state capital, Jegede emphasized his commitment to finding solutions to the problems within the PDP rather than adding to them.

He stated that his decision to withdraw was made after extensive consultations and a reevaluation of the party’s needs.

Jegede acknowledged the potential activities within the state and party, highlighting the importance of allowing other competent and loyal party members to participate in the primary.

He promised to support all aspirants and work towards a successful primary and eventual victory in the governorship election.

While the PDP constitution does not explicitly support zoning, Jegede recognized the need for equitable representation, equity, and fair play.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among party members to achieve success in the upcoming election.

As the PDP prepares for the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, the withdrawal of a prominent figure like Eyitayo Jegede may have significant implications for the party’s future.

The focus now shifts to the remaining aspirants and the party’s ability to come together and present a united front in the race for the governorship.
