The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ethiope Federal Constituency sent a strong message to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Friday, reaffirming its political supremacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who was the special guest at the official inauguration of the Executive Members of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, dismissed concerns over the defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, stating that it would not affect the PDP’s hold on the constituency. He assured that the party would reclaim the vacant seat sooner rather than later.
Guwor emphasized that the strong presence of political heavyweights from Ethiope East and West LGAs at the event demonstrated that APC in Delta State would be rendered politically irrelevant in the constituency by 2027. He urged all Deltans to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, commending his achievements in infrastructure and socioeconomic development.
He further assured that the PDP would continue to dominate across Delta South, Delta North, and Delta Central senatorial districts in the 2027 elections, stressing that opposition parties in the state lacked political significance. Guwor also praised Oborevwori’s financial prudence, stating that the governor had not borrowed funds and would not rely on loans to execute projects in 2025.
State PDP Chairman, High Chief Solomon Arenyeka, reinforced the party’s confidence, asserting that those who defected from PDP in the constituency would eventually return after 2027. He praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and urged continued support for him, assuring that under Chief Dr. Ighoyota Amori’s leadership, the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum would maintain the party’s dominance.
Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, described Ethiope Federal Constituency as a PDP stronghold, highlighting the caliber of leaders present at the inauguration. He argued that those who defected had damaged their political careers and reaffirmed that PDP would reclaim its seat in the House of Representatives.
Chief John Oguma, a prominent PDP leader in Ughelli South, dismissed the APC’s influence, stating that it existed only on social media. He assured that the party would reclaim the three senatorial seats lost to the opposition in 2027.
Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the opposition lacked the political strength to win any local government area in 2027. He emphasized that the state government remained in firm PDP control and would continue to be so until 2031.
Senator Dr. Ighoyota Amori, Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, assured that the constituency was prepared to defeat APC in 2027, emphasizing that Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu would not return to office under any political platform. He announced plans for a mega rally at the Oghara Township Stadium to showcase the PDP’s political dominance.
Other speakers, including Chief Bernard Edewor and Chief Sunday Onoriode, reinforced the PDP’s stronghold, urging unity among party members. They praised Governor Oborevwori’s developmental efforts and dismissed the opposition’s attempts to gain relevance.
The event culminated in a unanimous vote of confidence on Governor Oborevwori, moved by former House of Representatives member Rt. Hon. Ben Igbakpa, seconded by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, and officially affirmed by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.
The high-profile inauguration, attended by top political figures and party faithful from 22 wards, reaffirmed the PDP’s firm grip on Ethiope Federal Constituency.
