In a bold demonstration of grassroots support, elected representatives and political appointees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ethiope East Local Government Area, under the leadership of Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, distributed N22 million to 220 beneficiaries on Monday.
The initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's MORE Agenda, aimed at fostering economic empowerment and job creation across Delta State.
Rt. Hon. Akpowowo emphasized the governor’s commitment to socioeconomic and infrastructural development, highlighting that over 250,000 youths and women entrepreneurs have already benefited from similar programs across the state. “This empowerment reflects our dedication to the governor’s vision. Come 2027, PDP and Governor Oborevwori will secure another landslide victory due to his monumental achievements,” he assured.
Ethiope East Local Government Chairman, Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, and other party leaders, including Chief James Omeru and Chief (Barr.) George Orogun, reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining empowerment programs. Omeru announced an additional N5.5 million support package for 33 women, while Orogun revealed plans for another round of targeted assistance. Beneficiaries were urged to invest wisely, as successful businesses often start small.
State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, praised Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, asserting that his achievements will secure PDP’s dominance in 2027. Similarly, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari and South-South PDP Woman Leader Chief Mrs. Tessy Torru encouraged party members to remain steadfast, mobilize for the governor, and extend goodwill to defectors considering a return. The event underscored PDP’s resolve to drive economic empowerment while solidifying its stronghold in Delta State.
Speaking during a radio program after the empowerment on Monday, Publicity Secretary of Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the 220 beneficiaries got N100,000 each, and that the next batch of beneficiaries in subsequent empowerment programmes shall not include those who earlier benefited, so as to spread wealth and job creation in the LGA.
He stated that PDP has grown bigger and stronger in Delta State under the visionary leadership of the state party leader and governor, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.
Dr Oghenesivbe said that the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress, APC Delta does not have the capacity to withstand the political supremacy of PDP in 2027, assuring that a coalition of opposition parties in the State may soon adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their sole governorship candidate, so as to sustain the speed of meaningful development and good governance beyond 2027.
