Enugu Police Nab Two Criminals for Stealing Electrical Wires Worth N1.5m

The Enugu State Police Command has made significant progress in combating criminal activities in the city, with the recent arrest of two notorious criminals who specialized in stealing electrical wiring and installations from new building construction sites within the Enugu metropolis.

The arrests were made on April 6, 2024, following a tip-off, and the suspects were apprehended with stolen electrical distribution boxes, cables, and LED bulbs valued at approximately N1.5 million.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, revealed that the suspects, Sunday Ogbodo (38) from Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA, and Ogbonna Maduabuchi (40) from Amechi-Uwani Awkunanaw, Enugu South LGA, confessed to their crimes during interrogation.

The suspects’ main modus operandi involved using Ogbodo’s Peugeot 406 car to steal electrical wiring and installation items from construction sites in Independence Layout and other parts of the metropolis.

Following the arrests, the police recovered the stolen items, including the vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

The suspects also confessed to having stolen numerous electrical wiring and installation items from different building sites in the area.

Ndukwe urged individuals who have recently experienced similar thefts at their construction sites to visit the Independence Layout Police Station to identify and claim their stolen items.

He also assured the public that further investigative actions are underway to apprehend the suspects’ accomplices, who are currently at large.

Once the investigation is completed, the suspects will be arraigned and prosecuted accordingly.

This case highlights the efforts of the Enugu State Police Command to combat crime in the region and protect the property of its citizens.

The arrests and recovery of stolen items serve as a warning to criminals and a reassurance to residents that the police are actively working to ensure their safety and security.
