Empowering Women: Cross River Police Wives Association Celebrates International Women’s Day with Food Items Distribution

On International Women’s Day, the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Cross River State, Nigeria, celebrated by empowering 100 women with food items.

The event took place at the Officers’ Mess Moore road in Calabar, where the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah, emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and encouraged them to renounce all forms of biased knowledge.

CP Grimah urged women to put into action the messages of the day, engage in meaningful activities, and avoid idleness.

He called on women to use this global event as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.

Mrs. Julia Augustine Grimah, the wife of the police commissioner, addressed the attendees and called on women to continue supporting the struggle beyond the celebration.

She highlighted the initiative of Pst. Dr. Elizabeth Kayode Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police in Abuja, who urged them to make a difference on this day.

As a result of this initiative, the organization empowered 50 Police Officers’ Wives and 50 Late Police Officers’ Wives, totaling 100 women, with food items such as rice and yams.

The event aimed to bring awareness to women’s issues and provide support to those in need within the police officers’ community.

The celebration of International Women’s Day by the Cross River Police Wives Association is a clear example of how organizations and communities can come together to support women and promote gender equality.

By distributing food items to the wives of both serving and deceased police officers, the association is not only addressing immediate needs but also recognizing the valuable contributions these women make to society.

As we look forward to future International Women’s Days, it is crucial that we continue to support and empower women in all aspects of life.

By promoting gender equality and providing opportunities for women to thrive, we can create a more equitable and sustainable world for all.
