Embrace cycling for healthy living – FRSC urges Nigerians

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina Sector Command, has advised Nigerians to develop cycling culture to strengthen their physical and mental health.

The Sector Commander, Mr Ibrahim Maiyaki-Bazama made the call on Monday in Katsina at a media interactive session as part of activities to mark the 2023 World Bicycle Day.

He said it has been the tradition of the Corp to join the rest of the world in commemoration of the United Nations World Bicycle Day, to promote general wellbeing of the people.

According to him, the gains of non-motorised transport include cost saving advantage, health benefit, environmental advantages, among other benefits.

He said the Day encouraged people to use bicycle as a means of transportation for fostering sustainable development, health promotion, disease prevention, mutual respect and aiding a culture of peace

“On April 16, 2018; the United Nations 72nd General Assembly declared June 3 of every year as the World Bicycle Day.

“To this end, the Corps, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) and Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI) have been collaborating to mark the event,” he said.

Maiyaki-Bazama applauded the staff, Special Marshals and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Road Safety Corps (RSC) members for participatiing in the event.
