The immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has distributed food items and household appliances worth over N150 million to residents of Delta State, in a gesture of continued support for his community.

The distribution took place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at his country home in Onicha-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area. The beneficiaries, including his supporters, came from the four local government areas within the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.

The items, which ranged from 50kg bags of rice, 100kg bags of beans, deep freezers, refrigerators, and electricity generators, were distributed to members of a PDP support group known as the Door-to-Door WhatsApp Closed Group. Hon. Elumelu serves as the group's Lead Administrator.

While kicking off the distribution, Elumelu explained that the initiative was a way of appreciating those who supported him and the PDP during the 2023 general elections.

“There is a need to reassure people that they belong and can contribute meaningfully when they feel included,” Elumelu said. "This gesture symbolizes our gratitude for your support and time invested in the development of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency. We are also thankful for your backing of our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, as we worked together for the betterment of our Party, PDP.”

Elumelu further praised Governor Oborevwori for his inclusive leadership and for advancing the state across all sectors, making him a source of pride for the PDP and the people of Delta State.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Elumelu emphasized the importance of appreciating those who support and work for the success of public officials. He urged his fellow elected officials to follow Governor Oborevwori’s example of gratitude, particularly during these challenging times. “Those of us in office should continue to extend support to those less fortunate, especially during these hard times,” Elumelu said.

Hon. Emma Bazim Chinye, Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government and a member of the WhatsApp Group, described Elumelu as a man with a heart for the people. “Despite not currently holding office, Elumelu continues to impact lives. His generosity in these tough times touches both the average Nigerian and the very poor,” Chinye noted. He expressed hope for Elumelu’s return to the House of Representatives, where he would continue to serve the people.

Many beneficiaries prayed for Elumelu, calling him a beacon of hope. In attendance at the event were key leaders from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, including Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Hon. Austin Chikaezie, and Dr. Odinigwe Odigie, among others.
