Ekiti Government Urges Caution as Heavy Rains Cause Flooding and Tragic Death in Ureje River

In Ekiti State, Nigeria, a suspected commercial motorcyclist was found dead in the flooded Ureje River following torrential rains on Friday evening.

The discovery prompted the state government to issue a warning to residents, urging them to exercise caution during heavy rainfall to prevent further loss of life.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, led a team of government officials to the scene and promised to collaborate with security agencies to investigate the cause of the victim’s death.

She also emphasized the importance of taking precautionary measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.

The government has been actively working to prevent flooding in the state, with ongoing efforts to dredge main valleys and other areas prone to flooding in Ado Ekiti metropolis.

However, the Deputy Governor urged residents to play their part in preventing such incidents by avoiding driving or walking during heavy rainfall.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following safety protocols and taking necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
