Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has denied receiving any impeachment notice from the State House of Assembly.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker, dated March 12, 2024, Shaibu's Personal Assistant, Charles Olubayo, refuted claims that the Deputy Governor had refused to acknowledge the notice.
During a plenary session on Monday, the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, had directed that the impeachment notice be served on the Deputy Governor through national newspapers, including The Nigeria Observer, due to his alleged refusal to accept the notice.
However, Shaibu clarified that he had been out of the state since March 3, 2024, and therefore could not have been served any impeachment notice during that time.
The Deputy Governor's office also stated that neither the Clerk of the House nor any other person had sent an impeachment notice to Shaibu, which he had refused to acknowledge.
They called on the Speaker to correct the impression created during the plenary session to avoid any misrepresentation in this important matter.
The denial of the impeachment notice by the Deputy Governor has raised questions about the accuracy of the information presented during the State Assembly's plenary session.
