Edo Deputy Governor Omobayo Godwins Vows to Assist Governor Obaseki in Finishing Term on a High Note

Edo State’s newly appointed Deputy Governor, Omobayo Godwins, has expressed his commitment to helping Governor Godwin Obaseki finish his tenure on a high note.

In an interview with ARISE NEWSNIGHT on April 9, 2024, Godwins emphasized his intention to work closely with Obaseki to implement the existing plan for Edo State’s development.

The deputy governor, who hails from Akoko-Edo, expressed his determination to make a positive impact during his six-month term by focusing on technical and political inputs to support the governor’s efforts.

He highlighted the progress already made in the development of the Benin Masterplan and the ongoing work on the Edo Central and Edo North Masterplans.

Godwins also acknowledged the significance of his appointment as a milestone for Akoko-Edo, which has historically been underrepresented in high-level government positions.

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized his commitment to integrity and issue-based politics.

The deputy governor’s appointment came shortly after his predecessor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly on charges of misconduct.

Godwins was sworn in on Monday, April 9, 2024, and has hit the ground running, focusing on the development plans already in place and working closely with Governor Obaseki to ensure a smooth transition and effective governance.

As Edo State continues its journey toward progress and development, the collaboration between Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Omobayo Godwins is expected to play a crucial role in achieving the state’s goals and addressing the needs of its people.
