Edo 2024: Shaibu’s Former Bestie, Ogie, Joins Ighodalo’s Governorship Ticket as Running Mate

Governor Godwin Obaseki has chosen Osarodion Ogie, who was previously considered Philip Shaibu’s political bestie, as the running mate for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate for the Edo 2024 elections.

Ogie, hailing from Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, is expected to bring significant political influence to the ticket, while Ighodalo is known for his impressive business skills.

The choice of Ogie is intended to alleviate some of the frustrations of the political class who supported Governor Obaseki during his political journey from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.

Ogie and Shaibu were key players in the governor’s movements, often acting as his political backbone.

Osarodion Ogie was introduced to the political scene by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who recommended him to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for appointment into the State Executive Council (SEC).

Ogie subsequently formed a strong political partnership with Oshiomhole’s protegee, Philip Shaibu. Together, they fought political battles alongside the former governor.

As the relationship between the three changed following the emergence of Governor Obaseki and his subsequent war with Oshiomhole, Ogie has remained relatively quiet and continued to provide political support for the governor in his battles with his deputy and former bestie, Philip Shaibu.

With the Edo 2024 elections approaching, the political landscape in the state is becoming increasingly complex, as alliances shift and new partnerships are formed.

The choice of Osarodion Ogie as Ighodalo’s running mate is yet another significant development in the ongoing political saga in Edo State.
