Despite Impeachment, PDP Chairman Encourages Shaibu to Stay in Party for Future Governorship

Philip Aivoji, the Lagos State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his belief that the recently impeached ex-deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, still has a chance to become governor in the future.

Aivoji made this statement while urging Shaibu to remain patient with the PDP and not consider leaving the party.

The Edo House of Assembly impeached Shaibu on Monday, following the adoption of the recommendation of a seven-man judicial panel led by retired Justice Stephen Omonua.

The impeachment was a result of a strained relationship between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, which began when Shaibu indicated his interest in succeeding Obaseki as governor.

The situation escalated, leading to a parallel party governorship primary in February.

In response to the impeachment, Obaseki immediately appointed and swore in Omobayo Godwin, 38, as the new deputy governor.

Aivoji’s encouragement for Shaibu to remain in the PDP comes in light of this development.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Aivoji emphasized the importance of unity within the PDP and the potential for Shaibu to achieve his political aspirations within the party.

He highlighted that the PDP had supported Shaibu in his journey to becoming the deputy governor and that there were numerous other individuals who could have been chosen for the position.

Aivoji’s message to Shaibu is clear: stay in the PDP, be patient, and work towards mending fences to achieve his dream of becoming the governor.

He believes that by doing so, Shaibu can still have a successful political future within the party.

This situation serves as a reminder of the fluid nature of politics and the importance of maintaining party unity and support.

It remains to be seen how Shaibu will respond to Aivoji’s advice and whether he will continue to pursue his political ambitions within the PDP.
