The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) project inspection team, led by the Executive Director of Projects, Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, on Monday, March 17, 2025, toured Ika, Ndokwa, and Ukwuani to evaluate ongoing and completed projects under the Commission’s mandate.
The team’s visit began at the palace of the Obi of Owa, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, where Dr. Okorodudu paid homage, emphasizing the significance of seeking the monarch’s blessings before proceeding with inspections. In response, the Obi commended the Commission’s work, acknowledging Dr. Okorodudu’s contributions and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to development.
Among the key projects inspected was a 350-seater event center at Owa-Oyibu in Ika North East LGA. Dr. Okorodudu praised DESOPADEC for initiating such a facility and assured that any remaining work would be completed. Architect Sunny Ovisi and Engineer Tony Okuwe provided updates on the project’s three components: building, furnishing, and fencing, noting that the contractor had requested a review due to rising material costs.

The team also evaluated 40 poles of solar-powered streetlights and an 8-kilometer road at Obi-Anyima, leading to the Abavo-Abraka road, both of which Dr. Okorodudu deemed ready for commissioning. Another 40 poles of solar lights at Owa-Aladinma were also inspected.
In Ndokwa West LGA, the team visited an ongoing warehouse and two blocks of 20 lock-up shops at Etu-Ukpo. Dr. Okorodudu commended the initiative, stating that a warehouse alongside shops is a commendable model that should be replicated in other regions.
At Etua-Etiti, the team assessed a police station project, which includes a rehabilitated station, perimeter fencing, residential quarters for officers, and street lighting. Dr. Okorodudu described it as one of DESOPADEC’s flagship projects, underscoring its importance in enhancing security.
The inspection also covered the Utagba-Uno Primary Health Care Center, where DESOPADEC has fenced the facility, renovated the main building, and built accommodation for doctors. Dr. Okorodudu acknowledged the need for laboratory equipment, assuring the Matron, Mrs. Gloria Enebeli, that he would relay her request to the Board.
Other key projects visited included:
Umutu Arcade, a new initiative by Board Member Surv. Azuka Enebeli.
A youth secretariat and public toilet facility at Umutu Market.
A block of seven classrooms at Emeni Primary School in Obiaruku, Ukwuani LGA.
After the inspection, Dr. Okorodudu commended Governor Oborevwori for appointing dedicated Board members, emphasizing that their commitment aligns with the MORE Agenda for sustainable development.
Accompanying the team were Surv. Azuka Enebeli, DESOPADEC’s Head of Works, Engr. Friday Money; Head of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Elliott Olokor; Head of Medical, Health, and Safety, Dr. Frederick Adu; Head of Utility, Mr. Festus Ifovwodo, and other key officials.
