The Delta State Government has introduced a whistleblower policy to empower citizens to report substandard projects and poor-quality service delivery across the state.
Announcing the initiative at a press conference in Asaba, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, emphasized that the policy aims to ensure accountability, transparency, and value for money in project execution under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Flanked by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu provided a dedicated whistleblower contact number (09169978305) for citizens to report concerns via text messages, WhatsApp, pictures, and videos.

"This initiative reaffirms Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive governance," Aniagwu stated. "Deltans now have a direct channel to report substandard projects in their communities. If any contractor or supervising ministry is underperforming, we encourage citizens to alert us."
The commissioner assured that reports will be taken seriously, with strict actions against defaulting contractors and officials. He stressed that the identity of whistleblowers will be protected, ensuring their safety while promoting active citizen participation in governance.
"We have already started receiving reports within 24 hours of launching this policy, and investigations are underway. Let it be clear—no contractor, regardless of personal connections, will be spared if found delivering substandard work," he added.
Aniagwu reiterated that Governor Oborevwori’s administration will not tolerate inefficiency or misuse of public funds, urging contractors to prioritize quality delivery or face consequences.
"The only recognition contractors will receive from this government is based on their ability to deliver quality work. If you try to shortchange the state, we will take action. This whistleblower initiative is not just a policy—it is a promise made and a promise kept," Aniagwu declared.
