Delta State Governor Warns Traditional Rulers Against Shielding Suspects in Military Killings

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to kingdoms and traditional rulers in the state against hiding or shielding anyone involved in the recent killing of four military officers and 13 soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

During a meeting with traditional rulers at the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori described the attack on the military personnel as barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable.

He vowed that those who committed the dastardly act would be made to face the full wrath of the law, emphasizing that “We need to fish out those involved.”

The Governor reiterated that the state is governed within the tenets of the rule of law and human decency, and that such acts are alien to Delta State.

He also mentioned that he had met with several high-ranking officials, including the National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and the Army Staff, to discuss the incident and ensure that innocent people would not be victimized.

The traditional rulers, led by Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd), expressed their support for the Governor’s stance and assured him that they were on the same page in ensuring peace and security in the state.

They also called for a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.

In response to the Governor’s warning, the traditional rulers agreed that the security of their various kingdoms would contribute to the overall security of the state and the nation.

They pledged to cooperate with the government and security agencies to fish out those responsible for the heinous crime and prevent any further violence.

As the Delta State government and traditional rulers work together to address the tragic incident, it is hoped that justice will be served, and measures will be taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
