...Delta APC reflects on Edo election, eyes unity for victory

As the 2027 political race draws near, the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a grassroots peace and reconciliation process to address internal grievances that have plagued the party since the 2023 elections.
The APC Reconciliation Subcommittee, chaired by former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, held its inaugural meeting on September 24, 2024, at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, Delta State. The meeting focused on engaging members from the Delta South Senatorial District.
Held behind closed doors, the meeting drew members and leaders from the district’s eight local government areas. Several party members submitted written grievances, while others took the opportunity to express their concerns directly.

Following the meeting, Elder Orubebe briefed the press, describing the session as highly productive. He emphasized the party’s commitment to uniting members and leaders, many of whom have harbored grievances since the APC's defeat to the PDP in the 2023 governorship election.
"We initiated this peace and reconciliation effort to foster unity within the party," Orubebe said. "Our aim is to take control of Delta State from the PDP in 2027, and today's turnout shows the strong interest and enthusiasm from our members for this process."
Orubebe noted that reconciliation efforts had been underway among state-level leaders before being extended to the grassroots. He underscored the importance of uniting the party at every level to ensure success in the upcoming elections.
"Today's meeting was a positive step. We are working tirelessly to bring everyone together so we can take over from the PDP in 2027," he said. "Leaders at the state level have been meeting, and now the process has moved to the grassroots. Our goal is clear: to secure victory in 2027."
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the APC’s success in the recent Edo State governorship election, Orubebe pointed to the unity among Edo APC leaders as a key factor. He contrasted this with the disunity that hampered Delta State APC's efforts in 2023.
"In Edo, the leaders came together, putting aside personal grievances for the greater good. Unfortunately, we faced challenges in Delta State last time. But we’ve learned from those mistakes, and we are committed to building a united front moving forward," he said.
Orubebe expressed confidence that the reconciliation initiative would succeed, noting the strong support from both grassroots members and state leadership.
"This is a long-term process, and it’s already seeing positive results. There is now unity, commitment, and understanding within the party. Members are hopeful that the APC will take control of Delta State in 2027," he concluded.
Key figures present at the meeting included Comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay (Subcommittee Secretary), Dr. Chris Oghenechovwe, Barr. Francis Obigbor, Mr. William Deniran (Deputy Secretary), and other members of the subcommittee. Also in attendance were Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo (Secretary of the Media Subcommittee), Prince Fred Mordi (Member, Media Subcommittee), State Secretary Surv. Peter Akarogbe, and Delta South Vice Chairman Mr. Austin Oribioye.
