In a major crackdown on crime, operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have apprehended multiple suspected criminals, including kidnappers, armed robbers, and gunrunners, while recovering a cache of deadly weapons across multiple states.
According to a statement signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson traced a fleeing suspected kidnapper, Chedeye Mohammed, to Rivers State on March 26, 2025. “Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to a bush near a trailer park where an AK-47 rifle loaded with thirteen rounds of live ammunition was recovered,” the statement revealed. Investigations indicate that the gang was responsible for abductions in Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State, before seeking refuge in Rivers.
In a separate sting operation in Anyangba, Kogi State, officers arrested three suspected armed robbers and gunrunners—Zakari Mohammed, Ibrahim Mumuni, and Mohammed Hamisu—who were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, an automatic pump-action gun, and a Beretta pistol with live ammunition. Another suspect, Samaila Mohammed, was also apprehended with additional weapons.
Furthermore, in Isoko South LGA, police arrested Emu Lucky, a suspected arms dealer allegedly supplying ammunition to kidnappers. “A total of eighty-two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from his premises,” SP Bright disclosed, adding that Lucky was linked to an already detained suspected kidnapper, Mohammed Bellow, who acted as a middleman for criminals in the region.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured residents that these operations will be intensified, vowing that under his leadership, the police will ensure Deltans “sleep with their two eyes closed.” He also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts in combating crime across the state.
