In a bold political move, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North has formed a high-powered Leadership Council to strengthen party unity, boost grassroots mobilisation, and support the creation of Anioma State. The announcement came during a well-attended senatorial meeting held on June 14, 2025, in Idumuje-Ugboko.
Senator Prince Ned Nwoko was named head of the council, with APC Delta North Senatorial Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, as co-chair. A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting outlined the council’s structure—each of the nine LGAs will contribute 10 members, alongside automatic inclusion of key party stakeholders including former and serving lawmakers and party executives.
Rt. Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, who read the communiqué, described the council as a strategic response to the need for inclusivity, stronger coordination, and grassroots synergy across the senatorial district. He emphasised that the initiative aligns with Articles 12 and 13 of the APC Constitution.

In a show of solidarity, the meeting unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ned Nwoko, describing their leadership as pivotal to national and state development.
Senator Nwoko, while addressing the gathering, declared that the creation of Anioma State is a “done deal,” revealing that 75 senators have backed the proposal. He disclosed that a public hearing will be held in Uyo on July 4 and 5, after which the bill will move to a third reading in the Senate. A technical committee is set to be inaugurated on June 15 to fast-track the process.
Nwoko also announced plans to tour all LGAs in Delta North next month to brief constituents on developments at the Senate level. He commended President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for their leadership, assuring the APC faithful of his full support for their continued administration.
Other prominent speakers at the meeting, including Rt. Hon. Ngozi Okolie, Chief Emma Ejiofor, Chamberlain Dunkwu, and Engr. Victor Ochei echoed strong support for the Anioma State push and stressed the importance of party unity and grassroots participation.
Former Speaker Victor Ochei welcomed defectors from the PDP and Labour Party, reinforcing that the APC in Delta North is gaining momentum. He joined others in endorsing Tinubu, Oborevwori, and Nwoko for a second term.
The event was graced by top political figures such as APC State Chairman Omeni Sobotie, NDDC Chairman Chiedu Ebie, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu, Almona Isei, and Engr. Doris Uboh. A massive crowd of supporters from all nine LGAs of Delta North turned out in support.
With legislative momentum, widespread local backing, and cohesive leadership, the movement for Anioma State is rapidly becoming a political reality.
