The Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Jamani Ejiro has reiterated the state government’s commitment to promoting sustainable environmental practices aimed at preserving and restoring the ecosystem.
Jamani said this during the 2025 World Environment Day celebration, held at the Professor Chike Edozie Secretariat, Asaba. Represented by the functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Godwin Enone.
The Commissioner noted that the state government would continue to advocate for sorting waste at sources, and provide an enabling environment for stakeholders in the sector to venture into plastic recycling, which could turn the fortune of plastic waste into valuable commodities for the benefit of Deltans and Nigerians.
He appreciated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the required resources for the celebration, describing it as a testament to his administration’s dedication to environmental sustainability under the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
He also praised the contributions of various environmental partners and emphasised the government's openness to more collaborations that would enhance environmental preservation across the state.
Also speaking at the event, the state Head of Service, Dr. Minimim Oseji, noted that the recurring theme of "Beating Plastic Pollution" underscored the need for all stakeholders to redouble their efforts in combating environmental degradation.
Oseji urged ministry staff and stakeholders to replicate successful waste management actions taken in Oshimili South, Warri South, and Uvwie local government areas in other parts of the state.
She commended the Ministry for sustaining the World Environment Day celebrations and pledged to support them in propagating messages that would help Deltans key into preserving their environment in sustainable ways.
In his remarks, the functioning Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Godwin Enone, represented by the Director, Sanitation and Waste Management Department, Mrs. Francesca Atigan, said that this year’s theme placed emphasis on how Plastic pollution could be addressed to sustain the environment for future generations.
The event featured insightful dance drama and lectures on the ENVIRONMENTAL impact of plastics and opportunities in plastic recycling, delivered by Dr. Patrick Oghenerhoro of Dennis Osadebay University and Mr Francis, Managing Director of Solid Chemicals Resources Limited.
