The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come out swinging, slamming the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration over the rapidly failing Abraka-Eku Road and accusing the government of deep-rooted cronyism and reckless abuse of public trust.
In a fiery statement issued Thursday, the APC described the deteriorating road as a “monument to political nepotism and infrastructural fraud,” alleging that the multi-million-naira project was handed to Oruese International Nigeria Enterprise, a firm linked to Barr. Kingsley Esiso, former PDP state chairman and political ally of the governor.
According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., the contractor lacked the technical pedigree for such a project but was awarded the job purely based on political loyalty — a move the APC says has now left Deltans with a crumbling road and wasted funds.
“This is the direct consequence of Oborevwori’s addiction to cronyism,” Onojeghuo declared. “Contracts are no longer about competence — they’re loyalty rewards. And the people are paying the price.”
The APC further cited the collapse of another road project in Ika South LGA, barely six months after completion under the supervision of LGA Chairman Jerry Ehiwario, as proof of what it termed “systemic rot” in Delta’s infrastructure management under the PDP.
“Whether in Ika, Okpe, or Ethiope East, the script is the same: substandard jobs, shady contractors, and zero accountability,” the statement read.
The party is now demanding that anti-corruption agencies urgently investigate the state’s contract award processes, particularly those involving firms with ties to top PDP officials.
Civil society groups and local commuters have also raised their voices in outrage, calling the current state of the Abraka-Eku Road an “economic and humanitarian crisis,” given its central role in connecting communities and sustaining regional trade.
“This road is more than a strip of asphalt — it’s a lifeline. And the government has failed us, spectacularly,” said one activist who joined in calls for a probe.
As of press time, the Delta State Government had not issued a formal response to the damning allegations.
But the opposition is not backing down. “This is not opposition politics — this is accountability,” the APC said. “Governor Oborevwori must stop running the state like a party loyalty reward system. Delta deserves better.”
