The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has come out swinging against a recent Leadership newspaper report claiming a leadership tussle within the party, describing it as "a baseless fabrication" and “journalistic rascality.”
In a strongly worded press statement issued on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., the party dismissed the report by Felix Igbekoyi as “mischievous, fictitious, and a reckless distortion of facts.” The report had alleged internal divisions within the party following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection to the APC.
“Delta APC is fully united, focused and aligned behind the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” the party declared. It also reaffirmed that Elder Omeni Sobotie remains the duly elected and recognized chairman of APC in the state, warning that any suggestion of a parallel executive is a “fabrication aimed at stoking tension.”
The statement clarified that Governor Oborevwori is a fully registered, bona fide member of the APC, having defected from the PDP alongside other political heavyweights. His adoption as the party’s consensus candidate for Delta Central at the June 9 Unity Meeting was declared constitutional and widely endorsed by party stakeholders.
Taking further aim at the publication, Delta APC refuted claims that Senator Ede Dafinone expressed discontent during the Unity Meeting. “This is pure fiction designed to tarnish the Senator’s image and discredit the outcome of a landmark event,” the party said, daring the journalist to produce evidence.
Labeling the article as a “desperate and clumsy attempt by enemies of progress,” the APC urged its members and the public to ignore the false report and focus on the party’s ongoing consolidation under Oborevwori’s leadership and the delivery of the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
“Delta APC remains committed to internal cohesion, democratic values, and a prosperous future for our people,” the statement concluded.
